Wheeler scores first Cornwall win of the season on record-setting Free Admission Night!

Cornwall, Ont. – Sunday, July 5, 2026 – Martin Belanger — The grandstands were packed at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday evening as more than 80 sponsors combined to make General Admission free for all fans. The community initiative was a tremendous success, with more than 110 race cars filling the pit area and six divisions providing an exciting night of racing on Charles Wert AG and Pioneer Night.

Corey Wheeler wasted little time taking command of the 35-lap JLB Heating and Cooling 358-Modified feature, grabbing the lead over Kalen Draper and Mario Clair at the drop of the green flag. Wheeler quickly built a comfortable advantage while Louie Jackson Jr. worked his way into third by lap 20 before overtaking Draper for second on lap 28. Wheeler was simply untouchable, leading every lap of the caution-free feature to earn his first Cornwall victory of the season. Jackson Jr. finished second, followed by Draper.

The Canadian Barge Builder Sportsman feature saw David André lead the opening laps before a multi-car incident on lap five slowed the field. All drivers involved were unharmed. On the restart, Tristan Ladouceur took over the lead with Jeffrey Lapalme moving into third. A late caution with five laps remaining erased the leaders’ advantage, setting up an exciting finish. Jacob Nadeau, charging through the field, took the lead on lap 24 and went on to capture his third consecutive Sportsman feature victory at Cornwall. André crossed the line second, with Lapalme completing the podium.

Tommy Lizotte led from the outset of the 25-lap Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock feature, ahead of Alex Lebrun and Tyler Bushey. Bushey moved into second on lap seven, but despite several caution flags bunching up the field, Lizotte remained in control throughout to earn another impressive victor, his second in a row this season.

A strong field of 26 cars took the green flag in the Rick’s Ranch Mini-Stock feature. Antoine Dumouchel led the opening lap before Pierre Picard took over following a restart. Despite several caution periods, Picard never relinquished the top spot, scoring his second consecutive feature victory ahead of Travis Lamarche and Emily Massy.

The evening opened with the Fun Zone Party Inflatables Novice Sportsman 30-lap feature. Fans were treated to several lead changes as Tanner Tyo, Chris Wilson and Garin Thompson each spent time at the front of the field. Thompson took control in the closing stages and drove away for the feature victory.

The Street Stock closed the night with Ryan Kimball taking the lead over Bruno Boivin and Tyler French. Kimball led the whole feature and got his first ever win in Cornwall!

Cornwall Motor Speedway returns to action this Tuesday, July 7, with the return of the Super DIRTcar Big Block Series for the O’Canada 75, a 75-lap event paying $7,500 to win. The program will also feature the rescheduled DIRTcar Pro-Stock Series event from May 31, along with a Battle for a Cure Mini-Stock Series event.
