2022 season gets underway this Sunday at Cornwall Motor Speedway!
Cornwall, Ont – Thursday, May 26, 2022 – Martin Belanger – After two unsuccessful attempts to start the 2022 season, promoter Raymond Lavergne will be back at it this Sunday evening as BMO will be the title sponsor of the Marcel Lafrance Memorial event along with the Clyde Sligner Pro-Stock Series, Frank Belair Memorial Mini-Stock Series, Sportsman and Vintage.
Originally scheduled on May 15, the Marcel Lafrance Memorial will be held this Sunday evening with a 45-lap feature event for the 358-Modifieds, the feature will be separated in 3 races of 15 laps and each heats will also be 15 laps in distance in honour of the #15 that Mr.Lafrance made so popular in the 80s and 90s.
The Clyde Sligner Pro-Stock Series is also making a second attempt to start its activities with the first round being presented this Sunday with a 35-lap event. Boosting a $3,000 point’s fund, it will surely attract several drivers from Ontario, Quebec and Northern New-York. Several new drivers are joining the group with some late additions that could be added to the field as soon as this Sunday!
Similar to the Pro-Stock, the Frank Belair Memorial Mini-Stock Series will start this Sunday with a special 22-lap feature to honour Frank, who passed away last winter. Courtesy of Belair & Sons Garage, Rich Welding, Déménagement MD and Suprenant Truck Shop, this Series will have the richest points funds that division has had with $2,500 over the top 10 in points.
The Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman will have a 25-lap event along with the Eastern Ontario Vintage Club with a 20-lap event. The Fun Zone Party Inflatables Novice Sportsman will have the night off but they will get a double feature during one of the events in June.
‘’Having 2 consecutive rain cancellations with many special events mixed in is a logistically nightmare but we owe the rescheduling to the Lafrance family, to our great marketing partners that invests many dollars in those Series, our race teams and our fans!’’ explained Marketing Director, Martin Belanger. ‘’We will have more announcements in the coming days regarding the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals and the Race for the Cure Sportsman Series as well’’ noted Belanger.
Racing will start at 6:30pm with pit gates opening at 3pm and general admission at 5pm, General admission prices are set at $25 for adults, 5$ for kids between 6 and 17 and free for 5 years and under. Pit admission is set for 35$. Reminder to arrive early and get the chance to meet and greet with Joey and Tristan Ladouceur behind the granstands between 5 and 5:30pm.
