Cornwall, Ont. – Sunday, August 9, 2026 – Martin Belanger — The Empire Super Sprints made their second visit of the season to Cornwall Motor Speedway, joining the Battle on the Border Pro-Stock Series and a full racing program on Burnbrae Farms Night.
The 25-lap Empire Super Sprints feature got off to a wild start when Alex Bergeron took the lead before Evan Reynolds flipped in Turn 4, bringing out the red flag. Bergeron returned to the lead on the restart, with Jordan Thomas and Alex Therrien in pursuit before Danny Peebles brought out the caution. Bergeron continued to lead as the race entered lap traffic, but disaster struck when he caught a tire from a slower car. The contact sent Bergeron into several rollovers before he landed in the catch fence near the scoreboard in Turn 1. The red flag was immediately displayed, and Bergeron was thankfully okay. Thomas inherited the lead, followed by Mathieu Bardier and Therrien. Bardier encountered trouble, bringing out another caution on lap 12. Thomas once again led the field on the restart, with Therrien and Jordan Poirier behind him.
Thomas found himself in heavy traffic during the closing laps before Poirier spun in Turn 4 with four laps remaining. Thomas remained in control, with Therrien and Tanner close behind. With just one lap remaining, Guy Gosselin rolled over on the frontstretch, bringing out the final red flag. Thomas had led every lap of the feature and went on to capture the victory, with Therrien finishing second and Shawn Donath completing the podium.
In the Battle on the Border Pro-Stock Series, Burton Ward grabbed the early lead before the caution came out on lap 2. On the restart, Dakota Sharp moved into the lead over Ward, with Jonathan Galipeau running third. The caution returned on lap 9 for Tyler Bushey. Sharp continued to lead after the restart, while Bastien Caron worked his way into second by the halfway point. Sharp controlled the remainder of the race to score his second victory of the season.
Due to the curfew, the Sportsman feature was postponed and will now be contested next Sunday, August 16.
A solid field of Rick Ranch Mini-Stocks took the green for their 20-lap feature, with Christopher Proulx taking the early lead over Antoine Dumouchel and Carl Gorry. Proulx remained in front until lap 11, when the caution flew. Dumouchel took advantage of the restart to move into the lead over Proulx, with Pierre Picard running third. The final laps featured plenty of action, as Dumouchel and Proulx made contact to bring out another caution with just two laps remaining. Dumouchel held on through the final circuits to claim the win, followed by Picard and Travis Lamarche.
In the 50-60s division, Brian Comeau grabbed the early lead over Josh Powers and Randy Gaudet. On the lap 11 restart, Powers took over the top spot from Comeau, with Gaudet running third. Greg Hale moved into the lead on lap 16 and went on to score the victory.
The Novice Sportsman feature saw Kobe Hernandez take the early lead. Several cautions slowed the opening portion of the race, but Hernandez remained in control throughout the event to capture the win over Garin Thompson and Kyle Reif.
