Cornwall, Ont – Thursday, June 16, 2022 – Martin Belanger – Cornwall Motor Speedway will host one of his biggest event of the season as the first round of the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals will be presented along with the qualifying night for the Defi Urbain Chevrolet that will be run at the Trois-Rivieres Grand-Prix in August.
Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals
Established in 2010, the Canadian Nationals Series has seen a lot of great drivers such as Brett Hearn, Dale Planck, Chris Raabe, Brian McDonald, Danny Johnson, Steve Bernier, Stephane Lafrance and Carey Terrance capturing the crown, but during the pandemic years, the man to beat was Corey Wheeler. Coming of a win 2 weeks ago, Wheeler will look to capture a third title in a row in this series. Some active drivers such as Terrance, McDonald, Raabe, Bernier along with Kyle Dingwall, JF Corriveau, David Hebert and a host of others will want to get this coveted title. A 60-lap event paying $3,000 to win along with a $1,000 in halfway bonus will attract some of the best drivers in the area.
Defi Urbain Chevrolet
The Defi Urbain Chevrolet is an event presented during the Trois-Rivières Grand Prix with Modified types of cars but with a 602 crate engine and on the urban asphalt track, Francois Bellemare had won the initial event last season. For the 2022 edition, in order to get a spot for this event, drivers must participate in qualifying events presented at Granby, Drummond, RPM and Cornwall, this will bring several Nascar Pintys stars to compete in either a Modified or Sportsman along with DIRT track drivers that will want to secure a spot in Trois-Rivières.
Asphalt superstars such as Alex Tagliani, Raphael Lessard, Andrew Ranger will be in Cornwall to compete in either the Canadian Nationals or Sportsman, more than 25 drivers from Quebec are expected to be in the pits this Sunday as this will boost the car counts in both divisions.
With the Defi Urbain in town, the Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman will have a 30-lap event, a regular program is scheduled for the Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock, as the Fun Zone Party Inflatables Novice Sportsman will run a 20-lap feature, the Belair and Sons Garage will have a 15-lap event.
Racing will start at 6:30pm with pit gates opening at 3pm and general admission at 5pm, General admission prices are set at $30 for adults, 5$ for kids between 6 and 16 and free for 5 years and under. Pit admission is set for 40$. Reminder to arrive early and get the chance to meet and greet with Gilles Godard and Justin Desrosiers, behind the grandstands between 5 and 5:30pm.
