Cornwall, ON – Sunday, April 27, 2025 – Martin Belanger – We are less than two weeks away from our 2025 season opener. We continue our season preview with the Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman. There are two certainties for that division: The first one, we will crown a new champion and the second one, we will see Shane Pecore and Tristan Ladouceur often at the top of the leaderboard!

New champion to be crowned

The Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman division is often a category that see future stars taking some valuable seat time for a few seasons before moving up to the Modified ranks. This is the exact scenario for Gabriel Cyr after winning the 2023 and 2024 titles, Cyr is moving up full time in the 358-Modified division this season opening the title race for many contenders.

Pecore vs Ladouceur

There are two drivers that are early favourites to win the division title in 2025 as a two-way battle is shaping up between Shane Pecore and Tristan Ladouceur. Always a contender everywhere he races, Pecore as either captured the crown or finish no worse than second in the last 3 seasons while being the driver with the most wins with 34 in the Sportsman in Cornwall winning all the big events. In 2024, Pecore finished second with 44 points ahead of Ladouceur. Pecore will be looking for a fifth title in the category.

Third generation driver Tristan Ladouceur opened a lot of eyes with his solid 2024 campaign, while securing the title at Mohawk he finished third in points in Cornwall, he will be looking for a first win at his local track, gaining more experience will be helpful for his hunt for the coveted title in Cornwall.

Open battle for third spot

While the top 2 runners are solid, the battle for the last spot on the podium is wide open between many drivers! Veteran driver Justin Desrosiers will be looking to continue moving ahead in the ranking and step on the podium. Looking at the returnees, it will be a good mix of veteran drivers and young guns as Sylvain Dupuis, Trey Ladouceur, Dan Jalbert, Adam Rozon, David Andre, Skylar Ladouceur can be put in the mix. Other drivers such as Billy Cook, Bob Ray, Matt Barbour, Marco McCarthy, Ty David, will battle for a position in the top 10 on a regular basis.

Busy schedule ahead!

The Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman division is always one of the busiest classes during the summer running a 16-race calendar in the regular season. Returning under DIRTcar sanction, the DIRTcar Sportsman Series will make a stop on June 1st while the Lamoureux Pumping Series is also back with a 3-race series. The Sportsman will also run all 3 nights during the Canadian Super DIRT Weekend in October.
