Cornwall, Ont – Martin Belanger – Monday, September 2, 2024 – It was championship night at Cornwall Motor Speedway as several champions were crowned as Embrun Auto Tech.
In the 125-lap Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals feature, Tristan Draper took the early lead as Kyle Dingwall moved to second spot and Jarrett Herbison in third. The first caution was out on lap 4. Draper to the lead on the restart. Battling for the points title, Corey Wheeler headed to the pits for problems on lap 18. Draper still the leader as Ryan Arbuthnot joined the lead pack on lap 35 and passed Dingwall for second on lap 40. Brianna Ladouceur brought the yellow on lap 48. The leaders reached the lap traffic as it became a factor as some changes behind the leader as Jackson Gill and Steve Bernard were in battle for third spot. On lap 71 restart, Ryan Arbuthnot took the lead over Draper. Arbuthnot in front as Gill moved to second on lap 83. Arbuthnot and Gill were battling for the lead as the feature reached 100 laps, Gill was able to pass Arbuthnot on lap 101. Some great battles behind the leader as Mario Clair and Bernard moved to the top 3. Gill led the final laps and won his 4th feature of the season in front of Bernard and Clair. Carey Terrance wrote history becoming the first driver to win 5 Modified championships at Cornwall!
Jocelyn Roy was the early leader in the Clyde Slinger Pro-Stock feature over Ian Bressett and Denis Gauvreau. The first 26 laps went quickly as Denis Gauvreau spun in turn 4, losing his 3rd place. Roy remained in first place over Bressett and points leader Marc Lalonde in third place. Roy won the feature as Marc Lalonde was crowned the Alexandria Home Hardware track champion and the Clyde Slinger Pro-Stock champion.
Bobby Herrington to the lead in the 50-lap Lamoureux Pumping Sportsman Series with Jeff Lapalme in second and Jacob Nadeau. Current points leader Gabriel Cyr moved to third on lap 8. The leaders got with heavy traffic at halfway point with Herrington, Lapalme, Cyr, Fire Swamp and Nadeau the top 5. Caution was out lap 35. Herrington went on to the win his second feature of the season and securing the Lamoureux Pumping Series, with his third place Gabriel Cyr wins his second Next Level Home Improvement championship.
Brandon McMillan and Travis Lamarche went into battle in the 25-lap Eastern Ontario Mini-Stock Showdown as Lamarche took the lead on McMillan and Carl Gorry. Lamarche went on to win his 3rd win of the season, McMillan was crowed the 2024 Ricks Ranch Mini-Stock championship and Antoine Dumouchel won the Eastern Ontario Mini-Stock Showdown.
In the 15-lap Fun Zone Party Inflatables Novice Sportsman, Fred Andje led the whole event and captured his first ever feature over Garin and Jacory Thompson.
The Fireball Enduro is already as our doorstep as we will have a 2-day weekend for the family on Saturday and Sunday.
