Cornwall, Ont. – Friday, October 9, 2026 – Martin Belanger — It was night 1 of the Canadian Super DIRT Weekend at Cornwall Motor Speedway for the 7th edition presented by St.Lawrence Radiology with the Fat Les Chip Stands Canadian Nationals/Merv Winters Memorial 358-Modifieds along with the Sportsman and Mini-Stock Memorial on Artist in Residence Night. Even with Mother Nature throwing a curve ball with a good shower delaying the night by a few hours, we were able to get the show in.
The 50-lap Fat Les Chip Stands Canadian Nationals Series saw David Hebert lead the first lap as Mathieu Desjardins broke bringing the caution out. Hebert back in front and led another 3 laps as Steve Bernier had issues. On the restart, Hebert quickly got to lap traffic with Tristan Draper being able to pass Hebert on lap 14 as Dexter Stacey brought the caution out on lap 18. Draper back in front with Hebert and Thomas Cook the top 3. Draper broke while leading on lap 22 and yellow light were back out. Hebert was leading at halfway when Justin Cyr slowed in the backstretch losing his great third spot. Hebert was quick in front with Cook and Brian McDonald now running third. Hebert led the final laps to capture the feature event over Cook and McDonald.
Jeffrey Lapalme led the field of 30 cars to green in the 35-lap Sportsman feature as a few cautions slowed the first 3 laps. Lapalme was quick in front with Alex Fortier and Dan Reif the top 3. Fortier was able to pass by Lapalme for the lead on lap 9 as the leaders were in heavy traffic, an accident occurred involving a few leaders that will change the lead pack on lap 13. Fortier to the lead over Trey Ladouceur and Justin Desrosiers. The leaders were back with the lap traffic with less than 10 laps to go. Fortier survived a few charges from Ladouceur to capture is first feature at this event over Ladouceur and Justin Desrosiers.
In the 25-lap Memorial Mini-Stock race, Carl Gorry and Antoine Dumouchel exchanged the lead in the first few laps as Gorry was back in front on lap 4. Gorry, Dumouchel and Christopher Proulx together for the lead for several laps, Dumouchel went on to the lead the final laps to capture the event.
The Canadian Super DIRT Weekend continues tomorrow night for the 2nd of action with 3 series ending as the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals, Battle on the Border Pro-Stock and Battle for a Cure Mini-Stock will end with the Sportsman having a special $2,500 to win race.
