Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, October 10, 2021 – Martin Bélanger – It was the final day of activity at the Cornwall Speedway for the Fall Showdown weekend presented by King Edward Auto Parts et DIRT Outlaw Apparel.
Kyle Dingwall took the lead in the 125-lap 358-Modified feature event with Steve Bernier and Yan Bussiere the top 3. Dingwall had a good run as Steve Bernier took the lead on lap 31 in lap traffic. Bernier set the pace as Louie Jackson had a solid run in third with Corey Wheeler in the mix. At halfway point, Bernier in front with Dingwall and Jackson in battle for the second spot. Heavy traffic was a factor as Dingwall took back the lead as the top four are all bunched together. Wheeler took the inside of Dingwall on lap 94. Alan Therrien used the same strategy to pass Dingwall as he faded to fourth with Chris Raabe taking third after starting 28th. Wheeler led the final laps and went on to win and swept everything in terms of championship by winning both the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals and St.Lawrence Radiology Fall Showdown Championship.
Cody McPherson to the lead in the 50-lap Sportsman feature as William Racine took second with Gilles Godard running in third. Racine used the middle lane to challenge McPherson for the lead by lap 10. At halfway point, a good battle between the top 4 drivers with McPherson still in front with Ryan Stabler making his way to second. McPherson led the whole event and captured his second feature of the weekend along with the Gauvreau Transport Championship. With his second spot, Stabler captures the Race for the Cure Sportsman.
Jordan Poirier to the lead in the 25-lap Lightning Sprints over Xavier Lauzon and Yannick Poirier. Jean-Christophe Bolduc was able to take the third from Poirier on lap 8. Poirier in heavy traffic as caution came out on lap 15. On the restart, Poirier in front with Bolduc moving to second as Yannick was in third. Poirier went on to the lead the final laps and captured the win. Tommy Moreau won the overall championship and Stephane St-Laurent won the 417 Bus Lines Cornwall championship.
In the 20-lap Vintage feature, Josh Powers was the class of the field as he dominated the event, Pete Stapper was the winner in the 50-60s division.
A total of 23 cars took the green in the 25-lap street stock feature, several lead swaps as veteran runner Todd Raabe came on top at the end of the event.
In the 20-lap Non-qualifier Sportsman feature, Thomas led the first half of it before being surprised by Manuel Piette on a lap 10 restart.
