Cornwall, Ont. – Wednesday, May 6, 2026 – Martin Belanger — The countdown continues towards the 57th season opener at Cornwall Motor Speedway as the 2026 season preview moves on the Sportsman division who will have a new title sponsor with Canadian Barge Builders on board for this season.
Defending champion, Tristan Ladouceur is the early favourite to repeat this season in the Sportsman, but he will have some tough competition again this year as young standout Jacob Nadeau will call Cornwall home on Sundays this summer, Nadeau was in the hunt at all 3 Quebec tracks last season finishing second in each title chase behind Donovan Lussier. Another Quebec driver, Jeffrey Lapalme will make noise as he finished second last season in the points behind Ladouceur. Matt Barbour will also be in the hunt wanting to improve his third-place finish in the standings. The Moore brothers, Dylan and Brennan will also compete for a spot in the top 5.
A mix of young talent and veterans should also compose the rest of the top 10 with Kristian Smoke, Sylvain Dupuis, Justin Desrosiers, David Andre, Brandon Beauregard, Adam Rozon, Marco McCarthy, Trey Ladouceur, Kent Miller are amongst the drivers that will be in competition for a spot. Former track champion Shane Pecore has not confirmed being full time in Cornwall this season but will be a threat every time he will run, Pecore had 3 feature wins last year at the speedway.
Several rookie contenders coming from the Novice Sportsman will be added to the field with Shaun Lafave, Drake Cartier and the Kudrinko brothers looking in making the jump in the regular sportsman ranks.
Another busy schedule with only 1 night off during the whole regular season. The Battle on the Border Series will be one of the main attractions of the division with 3 stops in May, July and August, along with the DIRTcar Sportsman Series making a visit on June 28.
The Canadian Barge Builders Sportsman championship starts on opening night along with round one of the Battle on the Border Sportsman Series.
