2026 season preview: Another solid calendar for the JLB Heating and Cooling 358-Modifieds in Cornwall!

Cornwall, Ont. – Tuesday, May 12, 2026 – Martin Belanger — With 5 days to go before the start of the 2026 season at Cornwall Motor Speedway we cap off our season review with the JLB Heating and Cooling 358-Modified division, another heated battle is expected for the coveted championship as the headline class has another spectacular calendar ahead!

In 2025, a 3-way battle for most of the season between long time friends Corey Wheeler, Ryan Stabler along with Jackson Gill ended on championship night with Wheeler claiming the title with a slim 8-point edge over Stabler. The two local runners will be to watch again this summer as Gill will only do limited appearances in Cornwall over the calendar. Several drivers such as Louie Jackson Jr, Brian McDonald, Joey Ladouceur and Gabriel Cyr will want to get a spot on the podium. Finishing 8th last season, Carey Terrance will want to bounce back and challenge for the title. David Hebert is looking into being a full-time runner this season at the speedway and will be part of lead pack on many occasions along with Cedric Gauvreau making the jump full time this year, other drivers such as the Draper brothers, Kalen and Tristan, Gavin MacFarlane, Lee Ladouceur, Justin Cyr and Chris Ferguson will be to watch for a spot in the top 10.

Another solid calendar awaits the 358-Modified drivers with the Super DIRTcar Big Block Series making 2 stops, on opening night and then on Tuesday, July 7th. The DIRTcar 358-Modified Series will visit on August 2nd with a 96-lap Memorial race for Chico Dingwall and will pay $10,000 to win. Their will be 2 different series part of the calendar with the Fat Les Chips Stand Canadian Nationals back for a 16th season with 4 races and high purses. The Battle on the Border Series is also nice addition with 3 events paying $2,000 each.

Including the Canadian Super DIRT Weekend, the Modifieds will run on 19 occasions during the 2026 season in which 11 events will be considered a special event for them! 3 of theses races will pay $10,000 or more and all the special events will be a minimum of $2,000 to win each.

The season starts on opening night with the Super DIRTcar Big Block Series, a 100-lap event with $10,000 on the line, over 40 competitors are expected for this event.
